REVIEW

This is a very childish movie. However, in a strange way, it works with the atmosphere this movie was setting up. Every scene has it's own impact. It all feels like a big family. The characters are very impactful, even the supporting cast. Raghu Babu did well with what little he got. In short, everyone utilized their resources very effectively. I still can't get over how much Sonali Bendre (Vasundhara in movie) resembles Shruti Haasan. Both of them look like xerox of each other with only a few differences here and there but still looks so similar. (For comparison, click on PIC1 and PIC2) Am I the only one who noticed this? Anyways, from what I've seen, I'm impressed.

The first half starts off with the introduction of Prakash Raj (cameo) committing a sin by trying to steal the goddess idol. However his men are burned alive by the goddess power and Prakash Raj is killed by a green slime gas thing (the special effects were shit but this was made at a time where the CGI was just starting to improve. It was supposed to imply the goddess power or something like that but it came off that way) and then we begin the movie with the introduction of our main character played by Mahesh Babu. The next few scenes are his interactions with the family and it's done very well. I was able to judge his character and his performance with such a few direct scenes. It straight away tells you what his character, his behavior and his attitude is and I liked that. This film managed to provide character development that most recent films of today manages to fail. The rest is him taking his supposed mother to her native home and him interacting with the main female protagonist, Sonali Bendre. Rest is all the usual stuff like both falls in love with each other but doesn't say, He goes to meet her, they unite. However, what is not usual is the journey to their love story. This is a 2001 movie so I can definitely say that this was very creative for a 2001 movie. There is so much childishness filled with creativity and imagination in the first half. So, after both of them unite, Sonali Bendre and Mahesh Babu tries to convince their family members for their marriage because they had some problems with both their family. However, he does convince them and engagement gets over. Then grandma comes over and upon discovering that it's Mahesh Babu who is the next victim of the 48 year curse, she objects the marriage without giving them a reason. Here ends the first half. I couldn't be happier to witness such a good first half. I was intrigued to see how grandma solves the problem, how Sonali Bendre and Mahesh Babu will reunite, will Mahesh Babu die as depicted in the curse, will this be that one in a million film where the film has such a strong story and the main protagonist dies in ending in a meaningful way, I was intrigued to find out the answers to these.

The second half fills us with suspense, thrill, immersion, determination and dedication. So, it begins with grandma finding out the solution. Apparently, the curse can be stopped if someone becomes a blood sacrifice after doing 2 other rituals. Now, I'm not the religious type so watch this on your own. They are fantastically shot and well performed. The moment gets intense when Mahesh Babu discovers that Sonali Bendre ran away to avoid the marriage with Raghu Babu's son. So, Sonali Bendre is on the run and Raghu Babu's son is chasing her, trying to capture her. Mahesh Babu learns of the curse and vows to grandma that he will return alive and complete the 3rd ritual. So, Mahesh Babu fights them and she faints while witnessing Raghu Babu's son stabbing Mahesh Babu and running away like a frightened pussy. However, his determination to fulfill the vow gets him to the temple and he painfully completes the ritual like a bad-ass. This was full of suspense and thrill. Rest is the climax and the ending which I can't spoil. The second half is the best satisfying experience you could get from a movie like this. It does justice to the first half and connects every loose ends.

The songs are great to listen to. They neither cause irritation nor boredom. The story is strong and intriguing, the cast is very compelling, and their performance is very impactful. This is a good movie. It tries everything in its power to give you the right amount of drama, naughtiness, suspense and thrill. That climax and ending is one of the best ending I've ever seen in such a long time. The only 2017 film that has this much impact was Raees. In the end, this is one movie that I'm very euphoric that I watched it. If you haven't then this is one movie that deserves a watch.
